The Samsung F490 is the follow on handset from the Korean manufacturer that brought you the Samsung Armani. This touch screen handset is already hotly anticipated by many gadget lovers the world over, such is the popularity of these types of handsets in today's market. Can it take on the iphone? And more importantly can it win? This article attempts to answer these questions at a time when the market is getting more crowded than ever.

The Samsung F490 is 3.5g with HSDPA. This allows for extremely fast data transfer, something that is most definitely required in today's media frenzied online environment. Gone are the days when WAP and GPS were all that the mobile phone user had; now it is broadband speeds or nothing and the F490 delivers in spades. If you like using your mobile phone to download music, videos or just surf the web then this handset is the one for you.

The screen is rather uncommon size measuring 240 X 432 pixels. IT is a 3,2 inch screen which is plenty for operating the phone, viewing images and selecting tracks. One can assume that this handset has been designed for viewing video and film in widescreen such is the 16:9 ratio. This could be achieved by flipping the phone onto its side, a feature apparent on many of the latest handsets.

The touch screen has a feedback system, as found on some of the latest Motorola handsets. This means that the phone will vibrate when a button is touch. This is a welcome addition, as it gives the impression that a button has been pressed. This technology is still in its infancy and we expect it to improve as the years go on
