Even a short time ago, television on an iPhone clone or an imported knock off seemed to be quite a novelty. Even when the CECT A988 emerged with the "TV out" feature (meaning you could hook up the phone's video display to a TV so you could see your video on a bigger screen), it received a lot of attention.
And, when the N99i emerged with real time, analog television via antennae, people weren't sure if it would be a passing phase. The answer seems to be that it hasn't. Models like the aforementioned N99i, the PT400, and now the A698 (which I will discuss in this article), have been brisk sellers and seem to indicate that the TV clones are here to stay.
Features On The A698 Mobile Phone: This phone has the "everything in one phone" design that has become synonymous to the clones, like: internet browsing; email and text; MP3 / MP4; Bluetooth; FM radio; handwriting recognition; and built in digital camera (2.0 mega pixels) and web cam. It also has an oversized 3.0 inch touch screen.
Currently, this phone can hold up to 4GB of memory. This is a pretty standard sized phone with the dimensions of 109 X 51 X 18 mm. It weighs about 125 grams.
Quad Band: The A968 is a quad band which means that it will work for all GSM carriers (850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - worldwide - Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, New Zealand, And Australia). No software is needed. The phone will read the sim card on GSM networks.
Dual Sim Standby: The 968 mobile has what is called dual sim standby which means that you can have two sim cards running on the phone. For example, you could answer calls / text on one plan / network and web browse on another. You won't miss any calls when you are online. This is very popular for folks who take a lot of calls or who don't want to cart a heavy lap top around when they need or want to get online.
Real Time, Free Local Television: Some people get confused about these TV phones and think that you have you have to pay for this service the way that you do for cable. This is not the case. The local programs you pick up are free via antenna. This phone also allows for streaming video. (A sort of interesting feature with this is that you twist the phone to watch the TV.)
Full Keyboard / Scroll Bar: Other than the TV, probably the most compelling feature of this phone is the fact that it has a keyboard. There is a decent sized subset of people who don't much care for texting and messaging on the flat screens of the iPhone and it's clones. Up until relatively recently, there were clones available for these folks, but they didn't have many features. That is no longer the case.
The price on the A698 is pretty competitive, often in the low $100s depending on how much memory is included.
